Abstract: Introduction: As it occurs in other parts of the world, cervical cancer carries high mortality in Kenya. It is the second leading cancer and the number one cause of cancer-related mortality among women in Kenya. Most of the vulnerable women in Kenya have never been screened and their knowledge on the risk factors associated with cervical cancer remains low. Objective: To assess the influence of knowledge cervical cancer screening among women of reproductive age in Runyenjes sub-county, Embu County. A total of 297 respondents were interviewed and their recruitment was through stratified random sampling technique. Results: A proportion of 45.5% (135) had performed a Pap smear test as at the time of the research. 51.5% (162) of respondents correctly defined Cervical Cancer. The results indicated that there is low awareness and knowledge (ranging from 25% to 61%) about cancer of cervix, its signs and symptoms, its risk factors and methods of prevention among women of reproductive age in the study area. Conclusion: Uptake of cervical cancer screening services and knowledge about cancer of cervix is low in Runyenjes sub-county, Embu County. There is a significant association between knowledge of cervical cancer and uptake of cervical cancer screening.
