dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this study was to establish secondary school teachers’ perception towards KSSHA activities. The objectives of the study were to determine secondary school teachers’ perception towards their Principals’ capacity to implement school curriculum, supervise school staff, manage school finances and motivate school staff after attending KSSHA conferences. Secondary schools in Kenya invest a lot in KSSHA national annual conferences in terms of money and time hence the need for this study. The independent variable of the study was Principals’ effectiveness after attending KSSHA conferences while the dependent variable was teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of their Principal after attending the conferences. The study covered secondary schools of Mbooni East District and was hinged on the theory of human resource management as espoused by De Cenzo, Robbins and Owens (1987). The researcher used simple random sampling technique to get the schools and the respondents. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. The findings of the study were that collaborative management style is more productive in a professional environment than one of ‘command and control.’ Capacity building among staff varied considerably. On school budgeting, results revealed 30% low, 32% moderate, 38 % high before conference. Varying results were observed after conference, 40% said high, 36% moderate while 24% said low. The study concluded that communication is the lifeblood of any organization. The study recommended, among other recommendations, on the need for school Principals to identify strategies for implementing curriculum development by enhancing decision-making process among staff. A study on how motivational factors influence performance among schools was suggested.en_US
